What is hot foiling? Hot foiling is a technique that uses heat and pressure to transfer metallic or coloured foil onto paper, cardstock, and more. The result is a shiny, professional-looking finish, similar to what you see on luxury stationery or packaging. You can experiment foiling on different materials to see what shines.
What tools do I need for hot foiling? You’ll need: Stampin’ Hot Foil System; Specially-made hot foil dies (IMPORTANT NOTE: Cutting dies are not designed to be used with hot foiling, and you cannot die cut using foiling dies); Stampin’ Hot Foil Rolls; Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine (NOTE: the platform will not fit in the old Big Shot Machine)
What kind of foil should I use? Use Stampin’ Hot Foil Rolls, which are specifically made for the Stampin’ Hot Foil System.
What materials can be hot foiled? Hot foiling works best on: Two-Tone Cardstock; Smooth cardstock (Basic White cardstock works great!; Stampin’ Up! vellum; Designer Series Paper; Window Sheets; Pearlized Specialty Paper. Always test small samples first. Porous or textured papers can yield inconsistent results.
How does hot foiling differ from heat embossing? While both techniques are high on “wow” factor, the hot foil finish is smoother and shinier, where heat embossing is slightly raised.
