Faux Bow Tutorial

Ask, and ye shall receive...My first ever Tutorial. Let me know if the directions aren't clear enough!

Use the Double Rectangle punch to make two holes in the place where you would like your “bow”. Thread your ribbon through your holes so that both ends are at the back of your cardstock:
Cross the ends over at the back, and thread a loop of ribbon through to the front of your cardstock. Do one hole first:
And then the other hole:
Now cross the ends over at the back again, and thread the tails through to the front of your cardstock. One tail:
Then the other tail:
At this stage, you can adjust your bow until you are happy with the lengths of the loops and tails. This is what your bow should look like at the back:
You can make this bow with any kind of ribbon. A thin, soft ribbon like the Organdy is the easiest! It sits flat, is attached to your card, and even the most bow-challenged person should be able to make this one look good!

  21. I hope you don't mind but i showed this technique to some of my customers at a workshop on the weekend (giving you the credit for the idea of course) and they were all so in love with the bow that they asked for a copy of the instructions so I've printed this for them with your web address so they can check out your blog as well!

  23. Wonderful!! Several years ago, at a craft class I was taught how to make these bows. However I forgot, and am delighted now to be able to make them again. The instructions are excellent. Thank you so much.

  25. Great tutorial. I do have one question. Probably a very dumb one. You have to do this bow directly on to your project, right? can't discard the base paper when done?

  26. I use a hair pick to tie all my bows I learnt this way watching TV on a craft cannel called create and craft they had a wooden thing that looked like a pick so I started using a hair pick and my bows are perfect

  27. I still dont understand. Am I dumb? Could you do a vidio?

  28. ONLY because it is your first video and because you encouraged constructive comments.
Suggestions: (1) show a photo of the holes made by the double rectangular punch before you thread the ribbon through the holes.
    (2) Refer to the underside vs the back side
    (3) Show a photo of what you mean by "cross over the ends"
    (4) Show the loop before sticking it through the 1st hole
    (5) Explain which way to "do" the tails so the tail is pointed downward when completed.

I'm certainly gonna give this a try so have copied the article. You deserve an "A" for this your first tutorial and my comments are meant entirely in a CONSTRUCTIVE vein. Those proficient in card making will understand completely what you wrote, but for newbees, the more explicit the better.

Wonderful to have instructions which make the bow flat on the underside.

    Thank you very much.

  30. Tried it and it worked first time. Thank you for a great tutorial. I love this because I could make decent bows for my cards, the knots always made it lumpy in an envelope. This method is so much better!
