Stylish Christmas

Before the month is out, I decided to have one last play with the Dashing Along Designer Series Paper, available for free in the September Promotion...but only for a couple more days!

I've paired it with the Stylish Christmas stamp set (in the Annual Catalogue). It is indeed true to its name! Isn't the poinsettia image just stunning? I love the swirls in the set too. I stamped the swirl in Shimmer Paint, by lightly sponging the paint directly on to the rubber. I've done the same with the small snowflakes in the background. I decided to layer my main panel on Silver Foil, to tie in with the shimmer. I also added some Rhinestones to the centre of the poinsettia for added sparkle.

It's a long weekend here, so I'm off to spend some time with the family!

CCMC529 First Frost

It's Thursday, and that means it's Challenge time again over at www.createwithconnieandmary.com.
This week is a colour challenge, and these are the colours we had to work with:

I must confess that I stared at these colours for a while, before finally settling on a stamp set to use. I decided on First Frost, from the Holiday Catalogue. I still wasn't happy with how it was coming together, so I made the colours less intense by stamping off, and used a lot of white....it's probably cheating but, oh well!

I used the Petal Pair embossing folder to add some texture to the background. This stamp set is available as a bundle, so no fussy cutting was required here! I embossed the sentiment in white on Gray Granite cardstock. To add some sparkle, I popped some silver thread behind the floral elements and also added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to some of the tips.

I hope you like my card. Check out what the other talented stampers have come up with HERE. Don't forget you can play along over on the facebook page!

Delightfully Detailed Note Cards

I love these Delightfully Detailed note cards and envelopes...they come already coloured, so you only need to add a little something pretty to the front. Here, I've used the Delightfully Detailed Laser-cut specialty paper, and I've also used the co-ordinating Detailed with Love stamp set. I've made each one a little different. The Polka Dot Tulle is so delicate and pretty. I think it finishes these cards off perfectly.
Hope you're having a great week!

Masculine by Nature

Once I find a go-to masculine stamp set, I tend to use it to death. That's definitely the case with this one (despite it's unfortunate name!).
I've incorporated a bit of texture on this card, by using the Wood Textures DSP stack, but also embossing it with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder. I really like the effect. I've kept the colour scheme pretty neutral - Tranquil Tide and Soft Suede. The Nature's Poem DSP works really well, and a piece of the co-ordinating Nature's Twine is the finishing touch. To give the tree more dimension, I've stamped it twice - once in Tranquil Tide and again in Crumb Cake, slightly off, for a shadow effect.
Hope you like my card!

CCMC528 Toil and Trouble

It's Thursday, and that means it's Challenge time again over at www.createwithconnieandmary.com.
This week is a sketch challenge, and this is the sketch we had to work with:

I've never really celebrated Halloween, but when I see all the really cute Halloween products that Stampin' Up! come out with, I kinda wish I did! Designer Series Paper is a great way to play with a product suite without having to fully commit to stamps. This card is made almost entirely from The Toil and Trouble DSP.

I snipped out some images - a witch, a cauldron, a cat and a frog. I have a sneaking suspicion that sweet-looking witch has recipe plans for that frog! ...Hopefully the cat is safe, though.
The only stamping is the sentiment (from Itty Bitty Greetings) that I've punched out with the Classic Label Punch.

I hope you like my card. Check out what the other talented stampers have come up with HERE. Don't forget you can play along over on the facebook page!

Healing Sympathy

I have a love/hate relationship with making sympathy cards... it is awful having to make one, but I always feel better when it's done. It's such a helpless feeling when someone you care about is grieving, and making a card for them isn't a big thing but it is something. I never make them in advance, partly because it feels like I'm pre-empting bad news, and partly because I like to personalise the card to the recipient.
For this card, I reached for Healing Hugs. This stamp set is becoming a go-to for all occasions. That rose is just stunning. I added a few pretty touches - lace trim, Delicate Lace edgelits, a few pearls and in the background, the Tufted Embossing Folder. I use this 'with sympathy' sentiment (from Flourishing Phrases) ALL the time...hope I don't wear it out!
Hopefully this card brought some healing sympathy to its recipient.

CCMC527 So Santa

It's Thursday, and that means it's Challenge time again over at www.createwithconnieandmary.com.
This week is a colour challenge, and these are the colours we had to work with:

I struggled with these very primary colours at first. But once I settled on a beach scene and spied the cute little Tropical Santa to be in my beach 'polaroid' (you can find this guy in the So Santa stamp set from the Holiday Catalogue) it all came together! This is definitely not your traditional Christmas card!

I've also used the Swirls and Curls Embossing Folder (also in the Holiday Catalogue).  I've torn the cardstock in the beach scene, to add a bit of texture. I stamped Santa in black stazon ink and coloured him with a Blender Pen and inks.
To finish off, a piece of knotted twine. The sentiment is also from So Santa.

I hope you like my card. Check out what the other talented stampers have come up with HERE. Don't forget you can play along over on the facebook page!

Card 2!

Do you remember this card? Well, here is the card I made at the same time. When I sponged the die, I had this cardfront underneath, so I could use it like a stencil. I jazzed this one up a bit with some ribbon and trim. I also added a small rose embellishment (don't tell anyone but it was actually to cover up an ink splodge!)
Here is my other card again:
Whish one is your favourite?
