Team Meetings

One of my favourite gatherings are our team meetings. I hold them in my house, and it won't be long before we don't all fit, but I'm going to have them here for as long as I possibly can! We're planning a second storey renovation for early next year which will include knocking down a couple of walls downstairs to make a large dining room at the back of the house, so that will help! I'm going to put off hiring a hall for as long as possible because I just prefer a homey atmosphere. Our team meetings are always pretty informal. It's just a nice way to touch base with everyone, compare notes, and share what we've been up to. Of course there's always some stamping too. This was our most recent make-and-take. Everyone at the meeting made one, plus I like to mail one out to all those who couldn't make it on the day.

It's a super quick card that can easily be adjusted to suit almost any stamp set and punches, so it's a layout that I come back to again and again for workshops.

TIP: This card uses A4 cardstock very economically. The Kiwi Kiss piece is 10.5 x 7.4cm, so you can get 8 from an A4 sheet with no leftover bits. The Whisper White piece is 10.5 x 5.9cm so you can get 10 pieces from an A4 sheet with no leftovers. Super quick and easy for last-minute card emergencies!

This design also works well in workshops because although it is very simple, it has quite a few steps. So one person can be stamping butterflies (stamp 3 times in Riding Hood Red ink without re-inking the stamp), while another stamps the background stems in Pink Pirouette, and another stamps their sentiment in Kiwi Kiss. There's also some Paper piercing, faux stitching, edge distressing, sponging and punching to keep everyone busy, and give them some practise at various techniques and tools.

Stamp-a-Stack FAQs

I regularly get asked questions about my Stamp-a-Stack classes by customers and other demonstrators. I'll try to include all the answers here, but if I miss anything, leave a comment, and I'll add to this post :o)

What is a Stamp-a-Stack?
The idea behind a Stamp-a-Stack class is that you go home with a 'stack' of cards ready to send out. Traditionally at a Stamp-a-Stack, you would take a couple of card designs and mass produce each one a few times.

How often do you run Stamp-a-Stacks?
I run Stamp-a-Stack classes every week (on Tuesday nights and a couple of day times as well), and have been doing them for the last 3 years. They are the most popular type of class I run.

How many cards do you make in the class?
In my Stamp-a-Stack Classes, you make 8 cards and matching envelopes, in 2 different designs.
This is an example of one design:

Even though all 4 cards look quite different, they all use the same pieces of cardstock, in a couple of different colours, arranged in different ways. It's an A5 card, a piece of 10.5 x 7.4 cardstock (Riding Hood Red and Pink Pirouette), a piece of 9.6 x 7cm cardstock (Very Vanilla) and a piece of 9.6 x 4.2 cm cardstock (Close to Cocoa). I have just re-arranged them in different ways to come up with 4 variations.
It's more interesting than taking home 4 identical cards, and my class attendees get to have a play with a lot more tools and accessories, and pick up some tips and tricks too! I show them all 4 variations, and tell them that if they are in a hurry to get home, to just choose 1 or 2 of their favourite variations, and mass-produce them, but most of my ladies like to make all 4 different variations.
I try and make the second design quite different, so everyone takes cards home to suit lots of different recipients.

How much does the class cost?
I charge $15 if you bring your own SNAIL adhesive, and $20 if you prefer to use my SNAIL. It includes an embellishment pack (ribbon, brads, etc) and 8 envelopes.

Are the classes suitable for beginners?
Definitely! But more experienced stampers will also pick up some tips and tricks.

Is the cardstock pre-cut?
Yes, I pre-cut everything. It makes it so much quicker that way! I package it all up in a Jumbo-wheeled white lunch bag. That way, as a design is completed, it can be popped in the bag, away from falling inkpads and the like!

How long does it take you to cut all the cardstock?
I cut a month's worth in one go. It usually takes a couple of hours to cut the cardstock for a whole month's worth of classes.

How long does the class take?
My evening classes are at 7pm for a 7:30 start, and we always start in time. Speedy workers are often finished by 9-9:30, and those who work at a more leisurely pace are usually done by 10pm.

How do you set up for the class?
I take 6 people per class. I set my dining room table up so that there is a design at each end, with all the supplies for that design. 3 people work on one design, and the other 3 work on the other one, and then they swap seats as they finish.

Can I have a Stamp-a-Stack in my own home?
Definitely! Once you have experienced a regular workshop, lots of people like to get their fingers a bit more inky and invite their friends over for a Stamp-a-Stack. Instead of 8, you will make 6 cards for $10 (all supplies included), in a couple of different designs.

When should I join?

I often get asked when the is best time to join Stampin' Up! Obviously, the answer is always now! LOL
All jokes aside, if I had to choose the best month to sign up in, it would be October.
Why?

• It's the start of a quarter, so there are no sales quotas to meet until the end of March.
• Lots of people are purchasing for Christmas, so it's easy to make your quota, and after that there's Sale-a-Bration, which makes it even easier.

Me at work!

Well, if this isn't a good advertisement for becoming a Stampin' up! Demonstrator, I don't know what is!
This is me at work! Did I tell you I LOVE my job?? One of my customers took this pic of me and my dog Coco (in his spiffy denim jacket) at one of my classes last week. Coco is a BIG help at my classes, meeting and greeting guests and making them feel welcome.
I feel so lucky that I am able to do what I love and share it with others....that I can make money from it (and cuddle my dog at the same time) is the icing on the cake.

My New Favourite Number!

I was very excited to find a "Demonstrator of the Year" pin in my Convention bag, which meant that I was one of the top 25 Demonstrators in Australia. At the Awards Dinner on Saturday night, I found out I was ranked at number 14, which I was absolutely thrilled with! I also received a pin for Level 2 Recruiting (10-14 Recruits in the last year) another one for the 50K Sales Award and also for earning the Incentive Trip (an all-expenses paid holiday for 2 to Palm Cove). I also came home with 8 free stamp sets for my efforts!
It was such an awesome weekend. I met and re-met so many lovely Demonstrators (a special Hi to my Pin Twin Sarah!), received lots of amazing swaps, listened to some inspiring speakers and generally had an absolute ball! What could be better than spending a weekend with 300 like-minded people?? Next year's Convention is in Canberra (dates yet to be announced) and I would thoroughly recommend it!

Finding a Perfect Fit

When I joined Stampin' Up (waaay back in May last year), I ummm-ed and ahh-ed, and did all the should-I-shouldn't-I's that I think everyone does when they make this decision. What silly me didn't realise was that I was asking myself the wrong question! Of course I should join...that's an easy decision to make. What did I have to lose? I buy the starter kit, and get all these great products that I really want for nearly half price...it's a no-brainer. The bigger decision (and one that I never even thought to ask myself) was who should I sign up under? Lucky me fell on my feet, and I happen to have the most awesome Upline (Hi Ange!), but I shudder to think what would have happened if I'd signed up Direct to Company (which you could do back then), or under someone else.
So, if you're thinking of signing up, do your research! Some things you may like to think about are:

1. How important is locality to you? If you aren't on the computer a lot, and learn better face-to-face, you'll want to find an Upline who lives nearby.
2. Personality match! If possible, meet your potential Upline in person and see if you click.
3. Stamping Finesse. If you want an Upline that you can learn Stamping skills from, find someone whose style you admire.
4. Business Wise. If you do want to make money from this, find an Upline who has success in her own business, so you have footsteps to follow in.
5. Group Support. If you want to make new stamping friends, look for an Upline with strong team support, such as team meetings or a forum.

I get a lot of emails from other Demonstrators, bemoaning their own lack of Upline Support, so learn from their mistakes, and make sure you find a Perfect Fit!

How simple are these? This was one of my Stamp-a-Stack designs this month...just what the doctor ordered at this time of year when life is so busy. No layering, no tape, just stamps. To make it even quicker and easier, I've used Stampin' Up!'s Whisper White A6 cards and C6 envelopes. They come pre-cut and pre-scored, so it's all done for you. You get a pack of 20 for $11.50, and you can see them on page 138 of the Catty.
All I've done here is ink up my background stamp (from Looks Like Spring), stamped off once onto scrap paper, and then rock'n'rolled in the same colour ink to get a darker border around the edges. Then I masked off the bottom of the card with a Sticky note, and stamped Both Way Blossoms (Level 2 Hostess set) in Basic Black. I coloured with Markers, and stamped a greeting on the bottom. Done! Next time I'll show you the matching Card wallet I designed to put this set in. It makes a lovely gift.
The colours I've used are Almost Amethyst, Pretty in Pink, Apricot Appeal, and Barely Banana.
