Urban Underground Twist & Pop Card

I've seen lots of these "Twist & Pop" or "4-Panel Pop-Up" cards around the traps lately. I even received a couple of beautiful ones for my birthday. So after numerous requests, I held a class to make one. This is the card we made, using Urban Underground Designer Series Paper and the Nailed It bundle . There are plenty of videos showing how to make these, so I won't go into detail here.
When the inside of a card has serious wow factor, I always like to keep the front clean and simple:

I think I'll be using this layout again. The hexagon dies are part of the Build It Framelits, and they're a great size to use on a card. This design would work for any card, just substitute your favourite Designer Series Paper!

A Spinning Balloon

This is the other "Special Card" we are making next week. It's a Pop-Up Spinner card! I had lots of fun making this card, and then I couldn't stop playing with it when I was done. You spin the hot air balloon to wind it up, then close the card, so that when the recipient opens it, they see a spinning balloon:

So much fun! Oh, and you might notice that I've used the Cupcakes and Carousels Paper (again!).

Balloon Adventures Pop-up

It's been so lovely seeing everyone again in my classes this week. Stamp-a-Stack was our warm up, and next week we are stepping it up with some Special Cards. These are the type of cards you give to the special people in your life. We'll be making a pop-up card and a pop-up spinner card (I'll show you the spinner next time).

Party Animal 16th Birthday

I made this card a little while ago for Jacob's 16th birthday, back when I first got my hands on some of the new goodies. The Party Animal Suite of products is perfect for boys. There's hardly any stamping on the front of my card, just the strip of 'Happy Birthday's (this is a photopolymer stamp set, so stamping this strip was easy).
I cut my number 16 from Pacific Point cardstock and used the Fine tip glue pen to make it shiny (the glue dries clear and shiny in just an hour or so).
Inside is the wow:

These balloon pop-up thinlits are so easy to use. The balloons also co-ordinate with the balloon punch, which is a nice bonus!

Party Pop Up Thinlits Technique Class #2

This is the second card we are making in my Technique Class next week. These pop-ups have a real wow, especially when you step them up a bit. They are so much fun to play with, and I love seeing the recipients face when they open their card....it elicits a 'wow' every time :)

Another Pop-Up!

When I first started card-making, I used to make pop-up cards all the time. My stamping was pretty ordinary back then, so I guess I thought I had to add something impressive! The nice thing about this pop-up and the last one I showed you is that they can be added after the card is made. So, if you have a card that is a little too ordinary, you can just add the pop-up insert to it, and make it a wow.
Here I've used the very cute Look Who's Turning set to make an ordinary card:

into a wow:

It looks complex, but it's really quite simple. The folds are just in quarters, and the cuts are just done with scissors and then folded back in the opposite direction. You can stamp less images if you need more room to write.
This is one card that doesn't end up tossed on the floor by the child who is opening it :o)

The colours I have used are Poppy Parade, Baja Breeze and So Saffron.

Pop-up Butterfly

Whenever I give someone a pop-up card, it always seems to get a 'wow'....and there's something about receiving a pop-up card, that makes you open and close it again and again, even when you know what's coming!
I had a request to teach a pop-up class for my Technique Classes, and this is one of the cards I came up with. Quite simple on the outside:

I just love the Big Shot Butterflies die. It makes a beautifully shaped butterfly, in 4 different sizes.
Inside is the largest butterfly on a pop-up mechanism:

The pop-up piece is just a triangle of cardstock, and the butterfly is attached to one half of the 'V', so it stands up when the card is open.
Isn't this a gorgeous colour combination? Pear Pizazz, Blushing Bride, Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla and Early Espresso.
The stamp sets I have used are Elements of Style, Bliss (Sale-a-Bration set) and Afterthoughts (Level 1 Hostess set).

A Crabby Pop-Up!

This is the other Pop-Up card that we made at my Project Classes this month. This one actually looks simpler than the first one, but it took quite a lot longer (partly because of all the cutting and colouring), and uses a lot of cardstock too.
I've deliberately left the front of the card fairly plain:
The colours are Soft Sky, Blue Bayou, Groovy Guava and So saffron (in case you can't tell, I'm loving the new In Colours!). I've stamped Mr Crabby (from "Crab and Company") on Whisper White cardstock in Black Stazon ink, and Watercoloured using an Aquapainter and my Watercolour Wonder Crayons. Since we don't have In Colours in the Crayons, I used Really Rust and a bit of Cameo Coral. I've stamped various other Crabby creatures on the So Saffron sand, and torn the edge, and inked it with the edge of my inkpad. I've stamped Linen background on the Soft Sky piece for some subtle texture. The sentiment comes from Short & Sweet (p 118). If you have the oval punches, you NEED this set! All of the little sayings fit inside the small oval. Besides that, you get 12 stamps for $29.95...what a bargain!
Now for the best bit. Here's the inside of the card:

Mr Crabby is all dressed up in his birthday gear! I've cut 3 sections out of the middle of the card to form 3 pop-up flaps. I made a template for this to make it nice and easy. Again, I've watercoloured using my Crayons and Aquapainter.
This would be a great card for a difficult-to-impress teenager, or anyone you want to impress, really!
