CCMC531 P.S. You're the Best

It's Thursday, and that means it's Challenge time again over at www.createwithconnieandmary.com.

This week is a colour challenge, and these are the colours we had to work with:

I was originally going to opt for flowers when I saw these colours, but instead decided to use a stamp set that I hadn't used before (thanks to my beautiful friend Manda, who let me borrow it!). This set is called P.S. You're the Best, and I like it even more now that I've played with it. I do have a soft spot for vintage typewriters! The background 'splotches' are also from this set.

 

I coloured my typewriter using Blends, and cut it out. The spotty paper is from the Country Lane pack (in the Holiday Catalogue) and I've also used a galvanised clip and a little piece of Braided Linen Trim from there too.

 

I made my Mint Macaron piece corrugated, suing the new Corrugated Embossing Folder.

TIP: feed this folder in fold first, so that the pressure is more even, and the paper doesn't tear.

Subtle Springtime

You can achieve so many different looks with this Springtime Impressions die. Sometimes I like to use it as a background element, other times I have coloured it and let it take centre stage. Here, it is somewhere in between. Subtle, but still spectacular. The only 'colours' here are Crumb Cake and Whisper White.

I've used the Subtle embossing folder in the background, and layered some punches to give my sentiment a lift. I also added some sparkle to the flowers by dabbing on Multipurpose glue with a cotton bud (q-tip) and then sprinkling with Dazzling Diamonds glitter. I also popped on a couple of rhinestones next to my sentiment.

Nature's Poem

When I need a quick card, or I'm just feeling uninspired, I always reach for a favourite Designer Series Paper. This is Nature's Poem. That gives me a colour combination to start off with (Blackberry Bliss, Petal Pink and Whisper White). Combine that with a tried-and-true layout like this one, and the card practically makes itself.

Since the rest of the card is pretty plain, I've added lots of detail around the sentiment, with punched layers, a vellum leaf and some Silver Thread. I also added the pretty Petal Pink and Silver Twine along the edge of my panel.

Simple, but pretty, for some customer thank you cards!

CCMC530 Dashing Deer

 

It's Thursday, and that means it's Challenge time again over at www.createwithconnieandmary.com.
This week is a sketch challenge, and this is the sketch we had to work with:

 

I'm gradually building up my stash of Christmas cards, as I have fun playing with my new Christmas stamps and papers. I've used the Joyous Noel Designer Series Paper on this card, and taken my colour scheme from there - it's Merry Merlot, Sahara Sand and Copper. I love the vintage feel!

The stamp set I've used is Dashing Deer, and I've stamped my favourite 'baroque' deer in Merry Merlot, and used the Detailed Deer framelits to cut it out. I embossed my sentiment (from the same set) in Copper, and also added some copper thread. The background looked a little plain, so I stamped some of the small flowers in Sahara Sand (stamped off twice) and added a teeny pearl to the centres. I also shimmered up the antlers with some Wink of Stella.

Country Home

I had my team Stamp Camp weekend retreat at the end of August, and we had our traditional "What Would Marelle Make?" Challenge. I gave everyone the pieces to make this card, including the stamp set, Memento ink and Blends. They had to decide how I would put them all together.

This card was the answer, and my lovely team member Sam Wilson made a card that was remarkably close. Sam and I must be on the same wavelength because she has won this challenge 3 years in a row! Next year we are playing "What Would Sam Make?" I hope I win!!

I used the Country Home stamp set, a new favourite from the Holiday Catalogue. I also used some strips of Country Lane Designer Series Paper (a great way to use up scraps!). I love the new Galvanised Clips too....they make it really easy to attach a snippet of ribbon or twine.
